It’s on like Donkey Kong! The much anticipated inaugural Ironman Asia Pacific Championship has finally been confirmed for Australia, and will take place in Melbourne, on March 25, 2012 with a staggering professional prize purse of US$100,000. This event will be the first-ever Ironman triathlon competition to be held in the Melbourne metropolitan area, and Rudy Project will be there all the way.

The 226km race will take place in Melbourne’s South East and Bayside suburbs, with the course made up of a 3.8km swim in the Frankston Foreshore, a fast and smooth 180km bike on the Eastlink Tollway, and 42.2km run from Frankston to the Ironman Asia Pacific Championship finish line, located at the iconic St. Kilda sea baths.

“The Ironman Asia Pacific Championship will be one of the most significant and ambitious Ironman races ever held, attracting athletes from across the globe,” said Andrew Messick, CEO World Triathlon Corporation.

We all know how well Melbourne does a sporting event, think Grand Prix, the Australian Tennis Open, AFL grand finals, and most recently the fantastic local support for Cadel Evans celebrating his remarkable 2011 Tour de France victory. Bring it on we say - Rudy Project will be there will all guns blazing.

The event will offer two fantastic expo destinations located at Federation Square and at the athlete village in St Kilda, where you will be able to pick up all your race gear  from Rudy Project including special Ironman race kits we are putting together just for the event.

Rudy Project has a long history of supporting the sport of triathlon, and is proud to be the official eyewear supplier to Ironman Australia across all events in the local calendar. With Port Macquarie done and dusted it’s off to Busselton in December for the RP crew before we concentrate on making Melbourne our best event ever.

Rudy Project sponsored triathlete ambassadors Pete Jacobs, Mel Rollison and Mitch Anderson will be on hand to fly the Rudy flag as they compete in what will no doubt be the most exciting Ironman event ever held in Australia.
